Mini Epiphany and Sketch Dump
Last night I sat down to create a drawing for the upcoming art show at the Stoneworks gallery in Ventura for the First Friday event. The theme this time is “Beard and Mustache”. I don’t know why but as much as I wanted to do a really special piece I just didn’t have it in me. I have been very blue and scattered these past months especially since my move but I did manage to scratch this out of my pencil:
I didn’t know what to think of this doodle but I felt it wasn’t working so I “dropped the needle” on my web browser bookmarks for inspiration and opened up this page: http://grillomation.blogspot.com/
Paydirt! what cool and amazing drawings by Oscar Grillo -so I grabbed my fountain pens and just started drawing for the joy of it and let my mind wander. Here is what poured out of my pen. I hope this is the beginning of my getting back into my own skin again. I hope you like ‘em as much as I did doodlin’ ‘em.
So I didn’t get a piece for the show but I think I am finally shaking off the funk.
Lost In Space
My stab at the Space themed infinite scroll project over at Arthouse. As usual I got bogged down and rushed this out at the last hour. I’m not sure where all the submissions get assembled into an actual scroll but here is the flicker page where they get submitted, or you can see more via Twitter - #infinitescroll

Nord
Nord was always a little bigger than his elven brothers so he never quite fit in. He worked the toy line and made quick work of it, breaking dozens of records even but his heart was never in it. No Nord loved snowboarding more than anything else, snowboarding and tending his secret green house. Well snowboarding, tending his secret greenhouse and eating lots of midnight munchies. Yeah that about sums him up.
Note to self: perhaps Pink Floyd’s Atom Heart Mother was not the best inspirational musical choice for elf drawing, just a thought. Hmm I’m feeling a bit peckish myself.
Trinket
This is Trinket. She’s working to modernize Santa’s workshop. She really has her work cut out. Most folks up north are very attached to doing things the good old-fashioned way. It may take some time but she is winning over hearts one gadget at a time. Think Santa will notice that smart phone she slipped onto his sled?
Pip
Pip showed up one day at Santa’s workshop about 50 years ago and well, never left. No one knows what he does but everybody seems to like him. He’s very quiet & never says much, actually no one can remember him ever saying a word but he seems happy enough and always smells of cinnamon.
Nod
Nod works in Legal Affairs, he doesn’t see much action, in fact he’s kinda bored so he has time to braid his whiskers.
Sorry about the crummy scan. I did this one up in a pocket sketch book with a mechanical pencil in very low light (while waiting for my daughters ballet to start) so the drawing is too delicate for me cheapo scanner.
